Story: Louie is one amazing dog! This sweet guy wound up at the Yonkers Animal Shelter several years ago, and although he was a sweet and fun dog, he spent over a year there. As just one of many pit bull mixes in the city shelter, it was hard for a black pit to stand out from the crowd and find a family. Even though he wasn't getting any adoption interest while at the shelter, the volunteers and staff absolutely loved him. They fundraised and sent him to a trainer in Arkansas, hoping that with some more training under his belt he would be sure to attract a great adoptive home. Sadly, over a year later, Louie's trainer called the Yonkers volunteers and told them she was shutting down and he once again was in need of somewhere to go. When we got the call that Louie needed help, how could we say no?!

We have been told that Louie is dog, cat, and kid friendly, although we are going to give him some time to settle in with us and then test him ourselves with other animals. He is housebroken, crate trained, and generally well behaved, although still a bit strong on leash. We think he's just a bit too energetic to live with small children but would have no problem hanging out with young children for short, supervised periods of time, as he has never had any aggressive behavior.

Louie clearly has gone through a lot in the last few years of his life, and although so sweet, he seems a bit lost and unsure how to truly connect to people. It is clear he needs a family to show him he can trust them and that they will stand by him for the rest of his life. If he had that we know he would be a loyal and fun companion and a treasured addition to the right family!
