Age: 5-6 Years Old
Right before Christmas 2018, Frankie was brought to a veterinary hospital by his owner. They were claiming that Frankie had cancer and they wanted him euthanized. The vet examined him and found him cancer free but rather than being ecstatic, his owner still insisted that he wanted him euthanized. Thankfully, we were contacted and the owner was convinced to signed him over to us.
Frankie had clearly been living a life of neglect with his previous owner. When we got him, he had pressure sores on every leg that could have only developed after years of living on hard surfaces, most likely outside or in an unfinished basement. He had large patches of skin missing because of a skin allergy that had developed into a skin infection because it had been left untreated for so long. Due to a lack of veterinary care, he had pain in both of his hips and in both back legs, caused by improperly healed tears in his ligaments. GI problems made it difficult for him to gain any weight. When we first met him, he weighed only 40 lbs, rather than the 55-60 lbs he should. We also discovered during his first few vet visits with us that he has a heart condition known as mitral valve endocarditis. This is the malformation of a valve in his heart and is something that will have to be treated with medication for the rest of his life.
Obviously, Frankie is a bit of a medical hot mess through no fault of his own. These conditions are the result of obvious and inexcusable neglect, but rather than dwell on the terrible things that have happened to him, we choose to focus on who he is today and how bright the future is for him. He’s made an incredible transformation since he came to us a year ago!
Today, Frankie weighs a solid 60 lbs and doesn’t have any GI problems, all thanks to a proper diet. Because of proper exercise and joint supplements, his joints no longer cause him any pain. With the proper heart medication, he can run, swim, play, and do anything else he may want to do! He loves going for walks and is friendly with large and small dogs. This boy has an unmatched ability to love and forgive. Even with his past abuse, he melts into people and soaks up every little bit of love and affection he can get. He loves to give kisses and curl up on the couch for a long movie.
During this year he's been with us, Frankie has come so far, and now it’s his turn to find a forever home. One that will treat him as he deserves! He will be your best friend, your co-pilot, your therapist. Just come and meet him and you are sure to melt into his gooney eyes!
We are here to help and WILL COVER THE COST of medications and treatment as necessary for the rest of his life for his preexisting conditions. I'm going to repeat it, because it's that important, but we WILL COVER THE COST OF HIS MEDICATIONS AND TREATMENT AS NECESSARY FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. PLEASE DON'T LET THAT BE THE REASON YOU SCROLL PASSED FRANKIE.
